Free riverside folk performance by Norwich duo Lassie from canoes, with a guided riverside walk for the audience, as part of the 'Where the River Meets Us' festival.
Lassie are playing from canoes at Cow Tower on Saturday 31 October, from about 1pm to 2pm. It's called Folk on the Water, and it's the riverside highlight of Where the River Meets Us, a free festival built around the Wensum, the river Norwich was founded on.
The format is deliberately slow. The duo play from canoes as they move along the water while the audience follows on a guided riverside walk, the music drifting across the bank until everyone gathers for the finale. That finale comes from The Common Lot Choir, who take over for the closing performance.
There's a fair bit of history to the spot. In the Middle Ages, stone from Caen in Normandy was carried up the Wensum to build Norwich Cathedral and Norwich Castle, and Cow Tower was raised on its banks as part of the city's defences. Today the Wensum is one of the world's rare chalk riversโa habitat found in only around 200 places globally, 85% of them in England. Its upstream reaches were designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1993, and its lower reaches lie within the Broads National Park.

It's free, and there's no booking required. Lassie start around 1pm, with the Common Lot Choir finishing it off, so you've got about an hour of music and a walk along the river to go with it.
