Free 45-minute self-guided riverside walk screening archive films about the River Wensum, part of the 'Where the River Meets Us' festival.
Film Trail - The River Remembers runs along the Riverside Walk in Norwich on Tuesday 27 October. It's a self-guided walk from the Adam and Eve pub through to the Red Lion, taking about 45 minutes in total. Along the way, you'll find archive film screenings from the 1920s to the 1980s, so you're seeing the city as it was across six decades while you walk the actual ground.
The trail is part of Where the River Meets Us, a six-day festival of riverside and neighbourhood activities running from Monday 26 to Saturday 31 October. The whole thing centres on the Wensum, the river Norwich was founded on. It's a good place to start if you've never really thought about it: stone from Caen in Normandy floated up the river to build Norwich Cathedral and Norwich Castle, and Cow Tower rose on its banks as part of the city's defences. For centuries, the river carried the goods that kept local, regional and global trade moving.
And it's more than just history. The Wensum is one of the world's rare chalk rivers, a habitat found in only around 200 places on Earth, with 85% of those in England. Its upstream reaches were designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1993, and it supports kingfishers, otters and water voles. The trail sits right in that gap between the city's industrial past and its natural side.

The walk itself is free, and it's one of many things on during the festival's run from 26 to 31 October.
