A touring cinema event with screenings of classic Comic Strip clips and a live Q&A with Peter Richardson and guests.
Peter Richardson brings An Evening of The Comic Strip to Norwich Arts Centre on Sunday 22 November, as part of a touring cinema event celebrating The Comic Strip Presents.... It's a seated show that pairs screenings of classic films and rare clips with a live Q&A, so you'll spend the night watching the old stuff and then hearing the stories behind it.
The programme pulls from a few different eras of the troupe. There's The Best of Rik Mayall, which gathers clips from Bad News, Mr Jolly Lives Next Door and A Fistful of Traveller's Cheques. Then comes The Red Nose of Courage, with Ade Edmondson as Prime Minister John Major, Alexei Sayle as his circus-manager father and Dawn French as the Opposition Leader. The BBC series Stella Street is in there too, starring Phil Cornwell and John Sessions, and Four Men in a Car — the misadventures of four salesmen on their way to a conference in Swindon, with Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer, Ade Edmondson and Peter Richardson.
It's a fair bit of ground to cover in one sitting, and the Q&A is where the night really sits. Richardson is the one leading it, and he'll be joined by guests to talk through the clips and the years that went into them. If you've spent years watching these bits in fragments on TV or DVD, seeing them lined up like this is a different way of looking at it.
