A gripping stage adaptation of the 1957 courtroom thriller Twelve Angry Men, following a jury as they decide the fate of a young delinquent.
Twelve Angry Men comes to the Theatre Royal from Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 February 2027, a five-day run of the courtroom drama. It's a stage adaptation of the 1957 film, which earned three Academy Award nominations and has since become one of those titles that's almost impossible not to recognise.
Reginald Rose's script keeps the story tight and focused: a jury of twelve must decide the fate of a young delinquent accused of killing his father. The whole thing plays out inside the jury room, and that's where the real work happens. It starts with what seems like an open-and-shut case, but as the hours tick by, prejudices and preconceived ideas start to surface, turning the tables on the initial consensus until it reaches a nail-biting climax. It's a play that lives on the friction between the characters, so it's the kind of thing that works best when you can see the tension building in the room.
The cast includes Gray O'Brien, Bill Ward, Ricky Norwood, Tristan Gemmill and Ben Nealon. With twelve roles to fill, the ensemble is the whole point of the show, and the dynamic shifts as the jurors clash and eventually find common ground.
