A double headline show featuring ambient house pioneers The Orb and psychedelic rock band Ozric Tentacles at the Boiler Shop.
The Orb and Ozric Tentacles are sharing a bill at Boiler Shop on Thursday 12 November, a double headline that brings together two long-running names from the underground psych-dance scene. It's a pairing that makes sense on paper: The Orb's ambient soundscapes and pulsing rhythms alongside Ozric Tentacles' blend of instrumental psychedelic rock, ethnic beats and spacey textures.
The Orb were pioneers of ambient house, led by Dr Alex Paterson. Their 1991 debut, Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld, was a landmark of the era, followed by the UK number one album U.F.Orb in 1992 and the Top 10 single 'Blue Room'. They've spent decades working within that space between the dancefloor and the living room, and this show sees them back on stage.
Ozric Tentacles are a British psychedelic and prog-rock band fronted by multi-instrumentalist Ed Wynne. They formed at the Stonehenge Free Festival in 1983 and are best known for albums like Pungent Effulgent (1989), Erpland (1990) and the UK top ten Jurassic Shift (1993). Their sound is built on long, instrumental jams that lean into the psychedelic and the spacey, and they've kept that going since the early eighties.
