Simple Minds perform their V Tour 2027, with special guest Gary Numan, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Simple Minds play the Utilita Arena on Thursday 13 May 2027, with Gary Numan as special guest. It's part of their Simple Minds V Tour 2027, which they've billed as their biggest arena tour to date, and it's timed to coincide with the release of their new album, Sacrosanct.
They've been around since the seventies and took their name from a lyric in David Bowie's 1972 single 'The Jean Genie'. Since then, they've become one of the most successful bands to come out of the UK, with more than 60 million records sold worldwide. They've had number-one singles on both sides of the Atlantic and five UK number-one albums: Sparkle In The Rain, Once Upon A Time, Street Fighting Years, the live recording Live In The City Of Light, and the compilation Glittering Prize 81/92. Most people know them for the worldwide hit 'Don't You (Forget About Me)'.
The core of the band is founder members Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, along with drummer Mel Gaynor, who joined in 1982. They're playing now with Andy Gillespie and Ged Grimes. Former members Derek Forbes and Michael MacNeil are credited as significant composers of the band's rise in the eighties.
