A circular walk around the Quayside that threads together local ghost stories and macabre history, including witches, bodies fished out of the river and murders on both sides of the Tyne.
The Guildhall is hosting a Ghostly and Grisly Quayside Walk on Wednesday 28 October, starting at 6:30pm. It's a circular walk around the Quayside that threads together local ghost stories and macabre history, with witches, bodies fished out of the river and murders on both sides of the Tyne. You'll meet and finish at the Guildhall, so you're back where you started by the end of the night.
The Guildhall itself gets a fair bit of the attention: it's described as one of the most haunted buildings in Newcastle, with its own ghosts and the strange characters who inhabited the ancient Quayside area. That means the walk doesn't just use the building as a meeting point; it's part of the story. The route takes you around the Quayside, weaving those tales of the river and the surrounding streets together as you go.
One thing to keep in mind is that the route isn't entirely flat. There are some steep slopes to navigate, so it's worth wearing comfortable shoes and being prepared for a bit of a climb. If you're not used to the Quayside's hills, that's the main thing to have on your radar before you set off.
