For The Record joins forces with local DJ and producer Edmondson for an open-deck session as part of the 2026 Mercury Prize Fringe.
For The Record and local DJ and producer Edmondson are teaming up for an open-deck session at the Mercury Prize Fringe on Friday 16 October. It's one of the many things happening across the city that week, as the Mercury Prize returns to Newcastle.
If you're not familiar with the setup, an open-deck session is exactly what it sounds like: the decks are open for anyone who wants to step up and play. It's less of a fixed set and more of a community thing, with Edmondson holding the fort and other DJs and selectors coming through to take their turn. It's the kind of night where the music changes as the room does, rather than following a single plan.
The session sits inside the Mercury Prize Fringe, which runs from 15 to 22 October. Over those eight days, the Fringe puts on more than 30 events spread across Newcastle, with live music, screenings, workshops, talks and exclusive experiences celebrating artists, fans and the music industry. This particular night falls on the second day of the programme, so it's one of the earlier ones in the run.

For The Record is the one bringing it all together, and Edmondson is the local name heading it up. If you're into the DJ side of things, it's a good chance to see how a night like this works from the inside, with the open-deck format letting different people step in and out. It's on Friday 16 October, part of the wider Fringe running across the city from 15 to 22 October.
