Free Christmas market with local gift vendors, mulled wine and festive street food in the Cloister Garden and Banquet Hall.
Blackfriars Christmas Market takes over the Blackfriars Restaurant and Banquet Hall on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December, running from 10:00 to 16:00 both days. It's a proper early-December market, so it's one of those things you can drift into before the real Christmas rush kicks in.
The market is spread across two spaces: the Cloister Garden and the Banquet Hall. Local vendors line the area with unique gifts, so it's a good spot for picking up things you won't find on a high street. Between the stalls, there's festive street food to graze on, and you can keep warm with a glass of mulled wine or another hot drink while you wander through. It's set up as a place to take your time rather than a quick in-and-out.

Because it's in the heart of Newcastle, it's easy to reach on foot from the city centre. The two-day window means you can choose the quieter Saturday morning or a Sunday stroll, and the 10:00 to 16:00 hours keep it to the daytime. Entry is free, so there's no ticket to book in advance—you just turn up when it suits you. If you're looking to get some shopping sorted without the madness of the later weeks, this is a decent place to start.
