Young Adult Book Club

The Young Adult Book Club meets at Newcastle City Library on the first Thursday of every month, except January, from 4:30 to 6:00pm. It's a drop-in session for anyone with a soft spot for young adult fiction, so you don't need to book ahead—just turn up when you fancy a chat about what you're reading.

The club is built around talking through YA titles, and it's open to teens and adults alike, so it's as much for the people who grew up on the genre as it is for those still right in the thick of it. The sessions introduce you to some of the biggest titles that have come to define the genre, and they leave plenty of room to get creative with your favourite books. That's the part that sets it apart from a standard book club: instead of just talking about the plot, you're encouraged to expand the story your own way.

That creative side can take a few different shapes. Some people write fan fiction, some draw character art, and others go further—3D-printing models, working on cosplay, and more. It's a good spot if you've ever finished a book and wished there was more to it, because you can actually build on the world yourself. Whether you're there to discover new titles or to spend an afternoon tinkering with a story you already love, there's plenty to get stuck into.

It's free to attend, and since it's a drop-in, you can pop in for one session or make it a regular thing. You'll find it at Newcastle City Library, 15 Laman Street, Newcastle 2300, running from 4:30 to 6:00pm on the first Thursday of the month, with a break in January.
