Concert by William Crighton, a Bellbird-born artist and pioneer of Bush-Psych, as part of the West Best Bloc Fest 2026.
William Crighton plays the King Street Hotel on Sunday 4 October, as part of West Best Bloc Fest 2026. He's a Bellbird-born artist, and the set is billed as a solo performance.
Crighton describes himself as the pioneer of Bush-Psych, a bold voice of Australian folk weaving stories of land, spirit and struggle with raw intensity. It's a specific kind of songwriting that looks to the landscape around him, and the 'Bush-Psych' label gives you a fair idea of where he's heading — folk songs that lean into the psychedelic, with a focus on the Australian bush rather than the English countryside.
The gig is one part of West Best Bloc Fest, which has become a staple of the Newcastle music scene. It runs for one day only, bringing ten stages across nine venues in Midtown Newcastle West to life with more than 300 local musicians. Crighton's set at the King Street Hotel is one of those stages, so if you're in the area that afternoon, you can easily drift from one venue to another and catch a few different acts without leaving the neighbourhood.

It's a good one to keep in mind if you're into folk that isn't afraid to get a bit strange. The performance starts at 18:45 at the King Street Hotel, 15 Steel St, Newcastle.
