A live tribute performance by TOBiAS, an atmospheric and emotional homage to the music of The Cure.
TOBiAS brings TOBiAS Celebrates The Cure to the King Street Hotel on Friday 9 October, a live tribute to The Cure. The Sunshine Coast artist is back with the show he's been touring, which he's careful to frame as something other than a typical covers gig. He describes it as a deeply emotional, atmospheric and electrifying homage to the band, and puts a fair bit of his own perspective on it: 'I've poured my heart into every detail, from the arrangements to the atmosphere, because The Cure's music deserves that level of respect.'
That's the core of the thing — the arrangements and the atmosphere. Rather than just running through the songs, he's built the set around the emotional connection people have with the music, and he talks about the night in terms of nostalgia, catharsis and sonic beauty. It's a show that's played out across a string of sold-out performances, and he's described the crowds coming away from them on their feet and in tears. If you've spent years with those records, that's the kind of night he's aiming for.
