A creative workshop for writers, artists and DIY publishers to explore zine-making, blending writing, art, collage and self-publishing.
The Zine Club is running at Newcastle City Library on the second Thursday of the month, with the next session on 10 September. It's part of a longer series that started back in February and keeps going through to 10 December, so if you miss this one, there are plenty more to pick from.
The club brings together writers, artists and DIY publishers to celebrate Newcastle's zine culture, blending writing, art, collage and self-publishing as a platform for creative expression. It's not a class with a set curriculum; the sessions are self-directed and peer-led, which means you work on your own project at your own pace, surrounded by other people doing the same. Community-engagement artist Nina Katzmarski is there to provide support throughout, and the library provides all the supplies and materials you'll need, though you're welcome to bring your own if you have specific things you prefer to work with.
Part of every session is dedicated to folding zines to be distributed to Zine Street libraries across the local community, so whatever you make can end up in the hands of people around the city. The whole programme feeds into The Zine Project, which keeps the work moving beyond the library walls.

The club is open to over-16s, and bookings are essential, so you'll need to secure your spot before you head in. Each session runs from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the library on 15 Laman Street, and tickets are free.
