A tribute show cruise on Newcastle Harbour with live music and dance floor energy aboard the MV Calmer, featuring performances by Ron Man, Shane Peters and Christian Clackson.
The Men In Black are taking over the MV Calmer on Sunday 19 July, for a tribute show cruise around Newcastle Harbour. It's a four-hour trip that runs from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, departing from the Queens Wharf Ferry Terminal on Wharf Road.
The music comes from three live sets by Ron Man, Shane Peters and Christian Clackson, who cover a fair bit of ground between them. They're paying tribute to Roy Orbison, The Blues Brothers, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Tom Jones — so you'll hear the crooning of Orbison and the grit of Cash in the same afternoon. It's a long list of names to work through, and the three of them split it across the sets, which means the music keeps moving rather than sticking to one voice for too long.
As for the boat itself, the MV Calmer has two licensed bars and an onboard chef serving snacks, so you've got drinks and food on hand throughout the trip. The whole thing is built around a black-suit theme, which fits the tribute acts and the harbour views. One thing to keep in mind: seating is limited, unreserved and not guaranteed, as this is primarily a standing and dance-style event. If you're planning on spending most of your time on the dance floor, that won't be an issue, but it's worth knowing before you board.
