The Lock-Up welcomes curator, writer and academic Moon Lacroix to its 2026 Artist in Residence program, supporting the development of a new curatorial project.
Moon Lacroix is back at The Lock-Up from 19 October to 25 October, returning to the venue's Artist in Residence programme this time as Curator in Residence. It's a week-long stint in the heart of Newcastle, and the focus is on the work she's doing behind the scenes rather than a finished show on a stage.
Lacroix is a French-Australian curator, writer and academic, and this residency is a return to The Lock-Up's programme. As Curator in Residence, she's spending the week supporting the development of a new curatorial project, so the residency is more about the process of building something from the ground up than presenting a completed exhibition. It's a look at how a project comes together—the research, the planning and the early stages of putting it all in order—rather than the final result.
Because she's working as a curator here, the residency sits at the intersection of her different roles: the curatorial side where she shapes an exhibition, the writing side where she puts those ideas into words, and the academic side that informs the whole thing. It's a good chance to see how those three parts of her practice feed into one another while she works through the early stages of this new project.
