STEM Conversations comes to Bar on the Hill on Wednesday 19 August, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. It's a night of small-group conversations with University of Newcastle graduates working in STEM and the built environment, followed by networking over pizza.
The format is straightforward: instead of a lecture, you'll be in small groups, which means you can actually talk to the guests and ask your own questions rather than just listening from the back of a room. The people you'll be chatting with are Uni of Newcastle alumni who've gone on to work in science, technology, engineering, maths, and the built environment — so it's a good spot if you're curious about what these careers look like in practice.
It's part of National Science Week, and this is just one of the things the University of Newcastle is putting on for it. If you're keen on the rest of the program, there's STEM Sparks, a hands-on event for families; a public lecture by astrophysicist Professor Lisa-Harvey-Smith; and a panel discussion on science communication called STEM Messages Matter.
