Newcastle Knights NRL rugby league team play a finals match at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Newcastle Knights bring finals footy back to McDonald Jones Stadium this Saturday 22 August, with kick-off at 3:00 pm. It's their first postseason match at the ground since 2023, when they played a sell-out 30-28 extra-time thriller against the Raiders.
This one comes after a hell of a turnaround. The Knights started the season as wooden spooners and have fought their way back to be top-four hopefuls. A 36-26 win over the Gold Coast guaranteed them at least 34 points, which keeps them within reach of a top-four finish and a double chance in the September finals. Head coach Justin Holbrook said locking in the finals was 'pleasing', though he added the whole club 'thought we'd play finals since round one'.
The club is urging fans to 'fill the stadium with red and blue' for the match. People who've been to the ground have rated the experience highly, praising the venue, the accessibility and the seats, though they've noted the food and drink prices run high. If you're planning to grab a pie and a drink, it might be worth keeping that in mind.
