An immersive evening of contemporary performance bringing together dance, visual art, sound and design, curated by Cadi McCarthy and Braddon Snape.
Praxis runs at the Newcastle Art Gallery from Thursday 1 October to Saturday 3 October, with each session from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. It's an all-ages theatre production, so it works for a night out with friends or taking the younger ones along.
The programme brings together five new works by ten Newcastle artists โ five choreographers and five multidisciplinary artists โ drawn from Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub and The Creator Incubator, and curated by Cadi McCarthy and Braddon Snape. It's described as an immersive evening of contemporary performance that pulls together dance, visual art, sound and design, putting the audience right in the middle of the action rather than watching from a distance. The whole thing is supported by New Annual, City of Newcastle, Creative Australia, Create NSW, Newcastle Art Gallery and Stories in Motion.
Because it's an immersive show, you're not just sitting in a seat watching a stage; the dance, sound and visual elements happen around you, and the multidisciplinary artists work across different mediums throughout the night. With five separate pieces in one evening, you get a good cross-section of what these ten artists have been working on, all under one roof.
