Dance showcase by groups from 18 Catholic schools from the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, part of the ASPIRE production series.
Momentum takes the Civic Theatre stage on Monday 2 November, a dance showcase bringing together groups from 18 Catholic schools across the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. It's a new addition to ASPIRE, the diocese's major annual production, and it opens the floor to school dance groups of all sizes, alongside aerobics and cheer teams.
To get a sense of the scale, ASPIRE is the big umbrella that covers the diocese's performing arts for the year. More than 160 students audition for a spot in its various ensembles, which span dance, design, drama, vocal, stage band and production. Momentum is the latest piece of that puzzle, and it's a broad one: it welcomes dance groups from across the region, from small school troupes to full cheer and aerobics squads, all sharing the same stage on the same night.
It's not the only thing the diocese has on the go in 2026. Momentum sits alongside the Young Actors Program, which has been running since 2023, and Vivace, the instrumental showcase held at Newcastle City Hall. If you've followed the diocese's productions before, you'll know the Civic Theatre is a familiar hauntβthe big show has been staged there for 15 years now, so the venue is well-trodden ground for these students.
