A multi-arts performance project where seven artists create seven-minute experiences inside the rooms of The Oriental Hotel, part of the New Annual festival.
Petite Suite takes over The Oriental Hotel in Cooks Hill from 25 to 27 September, a three-night residency that turns the hotel's rooms into performance spaces. The setup is simple: seven artists or groups each take one of the hotel's rooms and reimagine it through contemporary performance. Each one puts on a seven-minute experience inside their room, and audiences move between them across the festival.
On performance nights, you'll be guided through the hotel by a host who acts as an exuberant stage manager, leading you from room to room to discover the stories held within the walls. It's a multi-night event, so you can see a few rooms one evening and come back for more the next.
Petite Suite is part of the New Annual festival, a ten-day multi-arts event that takes art to audiences across Newcastle, often in some of the city's most loved locations. The project is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, and participating artists receive accommodation, fees, a production stipend, and support.
