Guy Strazz - Stratofibre

Guy Strazz and his quartet Stratofibre play The Underground at the Grand Hotel on Tuesday 25 August. It's a contemporary jazz night with Strazz on nylon-string guitar, backed by an Australian rhythm section.

The set mixes original compositions with world-jazz reinterpretations of classics by Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Avishai Cohen and Antônio Carlos Jobim. Strazz is an APRA Award-winning jazz guitarist and composer, and he describes Stratofibre as a quartet built on rhythmic melodic interplay and intuitive interaction. The night is billed as a listening event rather than a dancefloor, so it's one for sitting and paying attention rather than standing and chatting.

Joining him on stage are Gerard Masters on piano, Fiona Lugg on double bass and Nic Cecire on drums. Together they'll be working through the originals and the covers, with the nylon-string guitar sitting at the front of the sound. The venue is The Underground at the Grand Hotel, 32 Church Street, Newcastle NSW 2300.

Doors open at 7:30pm, and the band plays from 8:00 to 10:00pm, with a 20-minute interval in the middle. Tickets are A$20 for members and A$25 for non-members. Under-18s need to be accompanied by an adult over 25, and the bar stays open until midnight.
