A 30-minute dance work performed at the water's edge, followed by a public dance workshop on the sand, suitable for all ages.
Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub brings AT SEA to the Canoe Pool in Newcastle East, with performances running from 26 September to 4 October. It's a 30-minute dance work performed right at the water's edge, where the dancers move with the tide, the wind and the sand. Because it's outdoors, each performance is shaped by the place it's in, so what you see one morning might look different from the next.
Cadi McCarthy choreographed and directed the piece, and the cast features Kyle Ramboyong, Jordan Bretherton, Jannah Allen, Olivia Drumore, Jacinta Durney and Zachary O'Donnell. They're moving to an original score by Zackari Watt, which runs throughout the half-hour. The whole thing was commissioned by New Annual for the 2026 festival.
Once the performance wraps up, there's a public dance workshop on the sand. The idea is to move with breath, gravity and landscape, and you don't need any dance experience to join in. It's a good chance to get involved rather than just watching from the side.
