Stand-up show by Arj Barker, on his eleventh national tour, at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle.
Arj Barker brings his new show, The Eleventh Hour, to the Civic Theatre on Saturday 6 February. It's presented by A-List Entertainment, and as the title suggests, it's his eleventh national tour. Barker is now an Australian citizen, and this run marks more than 25 years of him touring these shores — a path he started when he dropped out of college to pursue comedy back in the 1990s.
He first broke out in 1997, when he won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Since then, he's worked across both sides of the Pacific. In the US, he's appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. Closer to home, he's been a regular on Thank God You're Here, Spicks and Specks and Have You Been Paying Attention.
The Newcastle date is one stop in a long tour that runs from Friday 5 February at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre in Wollongong through to Saturday 29 May at the Albury Commercial Club. Along the way, he'll play seasons at the Adelaide Fringe, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Sydney Comedy Festival and the Brisbane Comedy Festival. A percentage of every ticket sold on the tour goes to Beyond Blue and Wildlife Recovery Australia.
