Anisa Nandaula brings her stand-up show No Small Talk to the Playhouse in Newcastle on Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August. It's a two-night run, so if you can't make the Friday, the Saturday is there as a backup.
Nandaula is a Ugandan-Australian comedian and award-winning slam poet who's been picking up speed lately. She was a Best Newcomer nominee at the 2025 Melbourne Comedy Festival, and you might recognise her from season 5 of Taskmaster Australia, the sketch series Urzila, or Network Ten's rebooted Talkin' 'Bout Your Gen. The Age described her as 'unstoppable', and that's a fair summary of how she works a room: she tends to play out scenarios with a bombastic side-eye and a confident strut.
No Small Talk pulls from a few different places. A good chunk of it comes from her returning to Africa after ten years away, and from there it moves into modern dating and what it's like growing up as a Black woman in Australia. It's the kind of set that mixes personal stories with the broader observations she's known for.
