Shadow puppet play by Wishing Chair Productions based on Washington Irving's 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow', on Fridays and Saturdays at the downtown Nashville Public Library.
Wishing Chair Productions is bringing The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to the Nashville Public Library downtown, starting Friday, October 23. It's a shadow puppet play based on Washington Irving's classic story, and it runs on Fridays and Saturdays through October 31, so you've got a few different dates to choose from.
If you're not familiar with the story, it's the one with the schoolmaster Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman—classic Halloween territory. The shadow puppet format gives it a specific kind of mood, with figures cast in silhouette against a screen, which fits a ghost story pretty well. It's a family-friendly way to get into the spirit of the season without anything too scary for the younger ones.
Behind the show is Wishing Chair Productions, a company that does a lot of work for families around town. You might recognize their characters, like Library Pete, Dr. Ev and Mr. B, who sing, juggle and read to kids. They're known for that kind of interactive, high-energy approach, and they also hold storytimes for families at the library, so this production is right in their wheelhouse.
