A symphonic reimagining of the iconic musical RENT, performed by an ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists, presented as part of the Discovery Series at TPAC.
RENT In Concert comes to Jackson Hall at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 26, 2027. It's a symphonic reimagining of Jonathan Larson's musical RENT, performed by an ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists that works through the show's full score. You'll hear the favorites like "Seasons of Love," "La Vie Bohème," and "Take Me or Leave Me" as part of the evening.
For those who know the story, it's set in New York City's East Village and follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create on the Lower East Side in the shadow of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It's based loosely on Puccini's La Bohème. The show won the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and it's since become a pop cultural phenomenon. This version strips away the full stage production and puts the music front and center, with the ensemble handling the score from start to finish.

The concert is presented as part of the Discovery Series at TPAC, so it's one of several programs they're bringing to the center. If you've only ever known RENT from the cast recording or the movie, hearing it played live by a full ensemble is a different way to experience it. The show starts at 7 PM at Jackson Hall.
