The five-time Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway musical Buena Vista Social Club, a journey through music and memory into the heart of Havana, centred on the story of legendary singer Omara Portuondo.
Buena Vista Social Club comes to Jackson Hall at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center from May 18 to 23, 2027. It's the Broadway musical based on the iconic album, and it's a five-time Tony and Grammy Award winner. The production is billed as a journey through music and memory into the heart of Havana, and it follows a story of big dreams, second chances, and music that needs no translation.
At the center of that story is the legendary singer Omara Portuondo, known as the 'Queen of Feeling,' whose voice was celebrated throughout Cuba. The show builds around her, and the music is the same Cuban sound that made the original album a global phenomenon. If you've heard the record, you know the territory it covers—the rhythms and melodies of Havana brought to a theater stage.
There are plenty of ways to catch it. Most nights run Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 PM, with a Saturday matinee on May 22 at 2:00 PM. Sunday, May 23, has two shows: a 1:00 PM matinee and a 6:30 PM evening performance. If you're looking for the most accessible option, that Sunday afternoon show is the one—it's open-captioned and includes American Sign Language interpretation and audio description.
