Jazz concert by vocalist Veronica Swift at The Dakota on Nicollet Mall, in Minneapolis.
Veronica Swift plays The Dakota on Thursday, October 22, as part of Chris Botti's tour. She's one of the most recognized jazz voices of her generation, and this is a headlining set of her own.
Swift has been around the jazz world since she was a child, touring nationally with her parents, Hod O'Brien and Stephanie Nakasian. By nine, she'd already recorded her first album and played clubs and festivals like Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Jazz Standard in New York, Jazz Showcase in Chicago, and the Telluride Jazz Festival. Since then, she took second place at the 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition and held a twice-a-year residency at Birdland Jazz Club. She joined Chris Botti's touring band, toured with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and recorded with Jeff Goldblum.
Her 2021 album This Bitter Earth earned a five-star review and the cover of DownBeat magazine, and in 2024 she was named Chevalier in the French Order of Arts and Letters. She also co-founded the rock band DAME with The Dresden Dolls' Brian Viglione and has worked with Mike Garson and John Notto. Her 2026 album Home draws on her upbringing on a farm in Greater Appalachian Virginia.
