Folk legend Judy Collins plays The Dakota Jazz Club on her farewell tour, with songs from her fifty-five albums.
Judy Collins is playing The Dakota on Tuesday, October 27, as part of her farewell tour. It's one of three Minneapolis dates she's scheduled for that week, with shows also on Wednesday, October 28, and Friday, October 30. All three run from 7 PM to 9 PM at The Dakota Jazz Club, 1010 Nicollet Mall.
Collins is a folk legend with a career that spans fifty-five studio albums. This tour is a look back at that whole body of work, and it includes material from her most recent record, Spellbound (2022), which was her fifty-fifth studio release and the first one she wrote entirely on her own. She's as well known for her songwriting and her vocals as she is for her social activism and her interpretations of folk standards.
Two of those interpretations stand out in the record books. Her version of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" is in the Grammy Hall of Fame, and her take on Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns" won Song of the Year at the 1975 Grammys. The farewell tour draws from that long stretch of recording, with Spellbound as the latest addition.
