Over-21s hip hop karaoke night with curated Twin Cities artists covering and performing original songs, followed by an open mic, part of the Urgent Emergent Performance Art Series.
Icehouse hosts Urgent Emergent Volume 11: Hip Hop Karaoke Night on Saturday, November 21, as part of the Urgent Emergent Performance Art Series. It's a night built around uplifting songs from the hip hop canon, powered by TruArt Speaks.
The evening starts with a curated group of Twin Cities artists, each performing a cover and an original. After that, the mic opens to the room, and anyone there can take the stage to rap their favorite hip hop records. The idea is to bring back the cypher-centered, non-hierarchical roots of the culture, with open space for the audience to step up. The series frames the whole night around the notion that "sometimes, we simply need a good time."
