An evening of flamenco with dance, singing and guitar from the Twin Cities Flamenco Collective, featuring special guests Amanda Dlouhy and Trevor May.
Twin Cities Flamenco Collective is playing Icehouse on Sunday, October 25, with dance, singing, and guitar. It's a full flamenco evening, and for this one they're bringing in two special guests: dancer Amanda Dlouhy and percussionist Trevor May.
Around them is the usual Collective crew. Ross 'El Vecino' Fellrath is on flamenco guitar, and dancers Eva Makiko and Grace 'La Gracia' Holthaus round out the bill. If you're not familiar with the group, they're a collective of dancers and musicians based here in the Twin Cities, and they spend their time performing, teaching workshops, and doing community outreach. They describe their mission as bringing the passion, rhythm, and soul of Andalusia, Spain, to diverse audiences while building a local community for flamenco artists and aficionados.
There's some deep history behind the names on the bill. Founding member Sachiko 'La ChayΓ' is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer who received a McKnight Dancer Fellowship in 2017; she was a resident artist and teacher at Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre from 2003 to 2009 before moving to Seville to study flamenco for five years. Fellow founder Ross Fellrath is a Minneapolis guitarist who plays in the style of the Morao family of Jerez de la Frontera and has studied with Pepe del Morao. Eva Makiko, who performs monthly with the Collective, trained in ballet in Tokyo and danced with Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre from 2012 to 2020.
