Community show honoring the truth about Thanksgiving through Indigenous storytelling and music, with Imnížaska Drum Group, Laura Hugo, Corey Medina & Brothers and others.
The Hook & Ladder hosts Truthsgiving: A Decolonized Thanksgiving Show on Friday, November 27, starting at 5 PM. It's presented by the venue and FPAC, with support from VIG Handcrafted Guitars. The night is framed as a community gathering that honors the truth about Thanksgiving through Indigenous storytelling and music.
The lineup brings together a wide range of voices. Imnížaska Drum Group is a family-based intertribal drum collective from Saint Paul that's been singing together for eight years and teaching in local schools and community organizations. Cindi Martin is an Indigenous Deaf poet, storyteller, and interpreter whose work centers Deaf Indigenous voices. Laura Hugo is an Indigenous singer-songwriter from the Navajo Nation who moved to Minnesota in 2010 and released her debut five-song EP, Where We Go to Grieve, in July 2026. Corey Medina & Brothers is a Native-led blues-rock band founded in 2015 by Diné singer-songwriter Corey Medina. And Thomas Draskovic-Chetan Ohitika he miye (Brave Hawk) is a Wahpe Khute Dakota and Hunkphapa Lakota actor and musician who has spent 24 years as a Lakota Language and Cultural Specialist at the American Indian Magnet School.

Between the drum group, the poetry, the songwriting, and the blues-rock, the bill covers a lot of ground. The storytelling and music are the two things that tie it all together. It's an all-ages-friendly lineup, though the night itself is 21+ and an RSVP is required. Doors open at 5 PM.
