Triple bill featuring Spike and the Gandy Dancers, j. bell & the Lazy Susan Band (album release) and The Toolmasters at Icehouse.
Spike and the Gandy Dancers head up a triple bill at Icehouse on Thursday, November 5, with j. bell & the Lazy Susan Band and The Toolmasters joining them. It's a night that doubles as an album release, so there's new material on the table from two of the three acts.
Spike and the Gandy Dancers are fronted by Peter VanDusartz, who put the band together to push his songwriting forward. Their debut album, What You Gonna Be?, is an 11-song collection co-produced by Minneapolis musician John Munson and released on limited-edition custom vinyl. It's the record that gives the band its name and its starting point.
j. bell & the Lazy Susan Band sit somewhere between Americana, blues and country, though they call themselves "straight up rock & roll." The night is also the release of their seventh full-length album, All. Right. Now., so you'll hear that alongside their older stuff. The Toolmasters round out the bill as a Twin Cities tribute band playing the music of Trip Shakespeare from his 1986-1992 career, with some Semisonic and Matt Wilson's later releases mixed in.
