The Brokedown Dollys, three of Minneapolis' top vocalists, harmonise to country roots music in a strictly over-18s show.
The Brokedown Dollys play Icehouse on Saturday, November 14, with doors at 4 PM and the show starting at 5 PM. It's a late-afternoon start, so you'll be out and home well before the night gets late.
The group brings together three of Minneapolis' top vocalists—Kari Shaw-Akers, Megan Shaw, and Doug Otto—who harmonize around the songbooks of The Trio: Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and Linda Ronstadt. Those three names cover a huge stretch of country and folk history, and the Dollys build their set from their catalogs along with other roots country artists. It's a vocal-heavy approach, with the three of them singing together rather than taking turns.
On stage, Shaw-Akers, Shaw, and Otto handle the vocals and acoustic guitar, and they're joined by Shane Akers on Dobro and lap steel. The Dobro and lap steel add that sliding, lonesome sound that sits at the heart of roots country, filling out the acoustic guitar and the three-part harmonies.
