Screening of 'The Blair Witch Project' (1999) with a pre-movie burlesque performance by Queenie Von Curves.
The Parkway Theater is screening The Blair Witch Project on Tuesday, October 27, with a burlesque set by Queenie Von Curves opening the night. The movie is the 1999 horror directed by Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick, and the burlesque happens before the film starts.
If you haven't seen The Blair Witch Project, it's the one that basically defined the found-footage style. It follows three film students who head to a small town to gather documentary footage about the Blair Witch, a legendary local murderer. The whole thing is shot to look like raw footage they left behind, and that approach turned it into a cult phenomenon and a touchstone for modern horror. It's rated R.
Opening the night is Queenie Von Curves, who goes by the name 'Rubenesque Royale of Burlesque.' She's a lifelong queer artist with a BFA in theatre performance, has performed with Ballet of the Dolls, and has spent more than 15 years entertaining audiences across the country. She also produces Bare Book Club Mpls, Divas and Drag with An Opera Theater, 2 Dykes Walk into a Bar with Dick von Dyke, and Dr. Sketchy's Mpls.
