Nine-piece, horn-driven Van Morrison tribute band from Minneapolis, led by Terry Walsh, plays The Dakota.
The Belfast Cowboys are back at The Dakota on Wednesday, November 25, for a night dedicated to the music of Van Morrison. They're a nine-piece, horn-driven tribute band led by veteran songwriter and guitarist Terry Walsh, and they've been a fixture of the Minnesota scene since their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick's Day 2002. Their sound pulls from rock, blues, roots, and soul, and the horn section is a big part of that.
They're a local band that's spent a lot of time on the road. At their peak, they averaged more than 120 shows a year before the pandemic, and they've played as far as Ireland and New York's Times Square—including a three-hour opening set for Chicago in front of about 15,000 people. They've released three CDs, with The Upside to the Downslide in 2009 and This Magic Night in 2015. They're also the parent band of St Dominic's Trio.
Around town, you'll find them playing regularly at venues like The Dakota, the Hook and Ladder, Bunker's, and the Driftwood Char Bar. They also raise money for their non-profit, Foothold Twin Cities.
