Tank and The Bangas play the Fine Line with their live youth orchestra on The Last Balloon Tour, presented by KFAI.
Tank and The Bangas play Fine Line on Friday, October 23, as part of The Last Balloon Tour. They're joined by DJ Zeus and Ariel J., with the show presented by KFAI.
If you haven't kept up with them, Tank and The Bangas are a New Orleans-bred outfit led by singer and poet Tarriona 'Tank' Ball and multi-instrumentalist Norman Spence II. Their live shows pair Ball's vocals with a live youth orchestra, so it's a bigger sound than you'd expect from a standard club date. The tour is built around The Last Balloon, the final installment in a trilogy that started with 2019's Green Balloon. The band describes their music as "a vessel for unbridled joy and transcendent connection," and they say it explores frustration, resilience and self-realisation.
They've been picking up awards along the way. They won a GRAMMY for 2024's spoken-word piece "The Heart, The Mind, The Soul," and Green Balloon earned them a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist. Critics and fans have drawn comparisons to Gil Scott-Heron and Rachelle Ferrell, so you've got a good sense of the territory they're working in.
