Jazz fusion quintet Room3 Collective plays hip-hop and neo-soul medleys with a rotating cast of local emcees and vocalists at Berlin in the North Loop.
Room3 Collective is back at Berlin on Sunday, November 22, this time with keyboardist Kevin Gamble joining the mix. The set runs from 7 PM to 9:30 PM, and the night follows the same format the group has built around their residency at the North Loop lounge: hip-hop and neo-soul medleys played live.
Room3 is a jazz fusion group, and the collective is built around a house rhythm section that stays the same from night to night. For this one, you'll have Kevin Gamble and Eli Awada on keys, Beck Anderson on bass, and Colin Mitchell on drums. The rotating part comes from the guest list: a cast of local emcees and vocalists who cycle through the residency, so the lineup changes even if the core band doesn't. The medleys they work through pull from hip-hop and neo-soul, and because the vocalists rotate, the setlist shifts depending on who's on stage.
Berlin itself is a bar and lounge in the North Loop that books a wide range of jazz, electronic, and live-music nights. It's not just about the music, either: chef Spencer Perrone handles the food and bar manager Cole Weiland runs the cocktail program, so you can eat and drink while the band plays. The room is mostly seated, with a handful of standing-room spots scattered in.
