Jazz fusion collective Room3 plays a Sunday residency night at Berlin with guest saxophonist Laeton Olaleye.
Room3 Collective starts a four-Sunday residency at Berlin on Sunday, November 1, with saxophonist Laeton Olaleye joining them for the first night. The set is billed as a curated selection of straight-ahead classics and reimagined standards.
Room3 is a Minneapolis jazz fusion collective that describes its sound as rooted in tradition but driven by experimentation, blending bebop, contemporary jazz, prog rock, and funk. They usually play as a five-piece and have been performing at Twin Cities venues for over three years. This year they received the 2026 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Musicians and released the album Bill's Garden.
For this residency, the group is operating as a rhythm section—Eli Awada on keys, Beck Anderson on bass, and Colin Mitchell on drums—pairing up with a rotating cast of local and guest musicians. Olaleye takes the lead on the first date. He's an up-and-coming jazz saxophone phenom who has played the Dakota, Crooners, Jazz Central Studios, and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival alongside artists like Omar Abdulkarim, Tom Lewis, and Will Kjeer. He's studied with Kevin Washington, Scott Johnson, Jack Breen, and Kavyesh Kaviraj.
