Free guided conversation session from the museum's Stop & Chat series opening the 'Take the Picture!' photography exhibition.
Stop & Chat: Take the Picture! is at the Minneapolis Institute of Art on Saturday, October 24, at 11 AM. It's part of the museum's Stop & Chat series, which falls under their adult events and activities program. The session is led by trained guides and is meant for visitors who prefer a casual conversation over a deep dive—so if you're more in the mood to chat about a few pieces than to spend hours analyzing every detail, this is the one for you.
The session opens up Take the Picture!, a photography exhibition that runs from August 22, 2026, to February 28, 2027, in the Harrison Photography Gallery. The show draws mostly from the museum's own photography collection across the medium's history, and it centers on different kinds of portraiture. Some of the work is built around performance, collaboration, and experimentation; in others, chance plays the biggest role in how the sitter is captured. It's a broad look at how photographers approach the human face and figure, from the highly staged to the completely unplanned.
The title comes from a scene in the 1957 film Funny Face, where Audrey Hepburn tells Fred Astaire—whose character is based on the photographer Richard Avedon—"Take the picture! Take the picture!"
