Singer-songwriter Steve Poltz, known for 'You Were Meant for Me', brings his improvisational mix of music, comedy and storytelling to The Parkway Theater.
Steve Poltz plays The Parkway Theater on Wednesday, November 11, a rare Minneapolis appearance for the Canadian-American singer-songwriter. He's the sole bill on the night, and the show is all ages.
If you're coming in cold, Poltz is a songwriter and storyteller who spent years as a founding member of the alt-folk band The Rugburns. He's also the co-writer of the 1990s hit "You Were Meant for Me," which Jewel recorded. Since then, he's built a career on the road, touring relentlessly for decades. His live shows are known for being unpredictable and improvisational, mixing music with comedy and storytelling rather than sticking to a setlist.
He'll be drawing from a long catalog. His latest album, JoyRide, is his 14th solo record, and it came together when his neighbor and producer, Dex Green, invited him into the studio. The record was cut in a chaotic, spontaneous session, which fits the improvisational way he approaches his live sets. Between the new material and the older songs, the storytelling is as much a part of the night as the music.
