Four-band rock and indie bill of emo, alt and psychedelic sounds to kick off Halloween weekend at The Hook and Ladder.
Solvejg, Ray Gun Youth, Pity Party, and Cheap Bouquet are all on the same bill at The Hook and Ladder on Thursday, October 29. It's a four-band rock and indie lineup to kick off Halloween weekend, and the styles shift pretty widely from one set to the next—emo, alt-rock, and psychedelic all in one night.
Solvejg is a singer and songwriter from southern Minnesota. She spent two years fronting the indie band Citrine Shandy before going solo, and she describes her sound as bubblegrunge girl rock mixed with 80s new wave and 60s folk storytelling. Ray Gun Youth pull from a different set of influences—psychedelic rock, grunge, emo, punk, and folk—with lyrics drawn from singer Jake Frazier's experiences after leaving a cult upbringing. Their self-released debut LP, Second Estate, runs from fuzzed-out catharsis to gentler reflections.
Pity Party is a Minneapolis indie alt-rock band that channels its music into outrage at US and global politics, drawing on early 2000s influences. Cheap Bouquet is a Twin Cities emo rock quartet that burst onto the scene in 2024; they went through a significant lineup change that they say led to more focused, powerful songwriting.
