Monthly short film competition in which the audience votes on ten randomly selected films by yelling 'GONG' or 'LET IT PLAY' to decide what stays on screen.
SCREAM it off SCREEN is back at The Parkway Theater on Friday, November 6, for another round of its short film competition. It's a monthly thing, always on the first Friday of the month, and the whole night is built around a pretty specific hook: the organizers don't pre-screen or pre-select anything. Every month, ten films are drawn by a complicated lottery system, and the audience gets to decide what stays on the screen.
They call it a "Twin Cities Gong Show" for short films, and that's a fair description. As the films play, the crowd yells "GONG" to cut a movie short or "LET IT PLAY" to keep it going. The films that survive the room walk away with a cash prize, so the editorial power really does sit with the people in the seats. It's a loud, participatory way to watch a lineup that could go anywhere, since the lottery means you never know what's going to end up on the screen.
If you can't make it in person, the whole night is broadcast live on YouTube, so you can still follow along from home. Just a heads-up: it's strictly 18+.
