Rising Voices, a series of barrier-free shows, brings local artists ODD1Out, EmPTHY and Obsidian James to The Hook and Ladder.
Rising Voices brings three local acts to The Hook and Ladder on Thursday, November 12, as part of its ongoing series at the Hook and Ladder Event Center. The night features ODD1Out, EmPTHY, and Obsidian James, and it's put on by FPAC, which describes Rising Voices as a showcase for emerging and established artists in the city. The series is supported by the Diverse Emerging Music Organization (DEMO), the MN State Arts Board, and the Legacy Amendment.
Obsidian James is an Afro-Indigenous, Harlem-born, Minneapolis-based singer, songwriter, guitarist, and multidisciplinary artist. His music sits at the intersection of R&B, neo-soul, jazz, blues, and hip-hop, and he describes his writing as being "to be healed, not to be heard."
EmPTHY is an underground artist whose raw blend of dark rap, emo, and alternative sounds draws on pain and individuality. They're also part of NO ACCESS. ODD1Out is an independent underground collective for those who never fit the mold.
