An acoustic performance by singer-songwriter Richard Shindell at The Cedar Cultural Center.
Richard Shindell plays The Cedar Cultural Center on Sunday, October 18, in an all-acoustic set. He's a songwriter who's spent years building a body of work around narrative songs, and this is one of a limited number of dates he's playing as he returns to the road.
Shindell's catalog runs to six studio albums and one live recording, and his songs tend to look toward the edges of society. He writes about the downtrodden and the disaffected, and he's spent a good deal of his life in places that might inform that perspective: he's lived in a Zen Buddhist monastery and busked the streets of Paris. He's originally from New York and now lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina, so he's operating as both an immigrant and an emigrant.
His most recent release, Careless, was recorded over three years across New York and Buenos Aires, and it sees him plugging in more than his signature acoustic guitar. This show, however, is billed as all acoustic, which brings the focus back to the guitar and the songs themselves. During the pandemic, he stayed in Argentina, out on the Pampa, reading, writing, walking and tending the garden, and this run of shows is his return to performing.
