Vocal jazz duo Rachael & Vilray play original songs and forgotten radio gems with just a guitar at The Dakota.
Rachael & Vilray play The Dakota on Monday, November 30, at 9 PM. The Brooklyn-based duo is touring their album West of Broadway, and the set centers on that material.
If you're not familiar with them, the duo takes its name from its members: Vilray and Rachael Price. Price is also a member of Lake Street Dive, and together they work from a stripped-back setup — just the two of them and a guitar. They describe their approach as performing original works and reviving forgotten gems from radio's golden age, so you can expect a mix of their own writing and older songs they've pulled back into the light.
The album they're presenting, West of Broadway, is vocal jazz in the timeless tradition, and that's the sound they're bringing to the stage. With just a guitar for accompaniment, the focus stays on the voices and the songs themselves rather than a full band.

They'll be at The Dakota, at 1010 Nicollet Mall, which is one of the few spots in the Twin Cities that pairs a full, chef-driven menu with world-class music performances. The show starts at 9 PM on Monday, November 30.
