Free guided tour in which museum guides pair works of art with the month's book, 'Frankenstein' by Mary Shelley.
The Minneapolis Institute of Art is running a series called Public Tour: Inspired by Books, and the next one is tomorrow, Thursday, October 22. It's a guided tour through the galleries, but instead of a standard art history walk, the museum guides pair works of art with popular books, with a new title taking the lead each month.
For October, the book is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The guides will lead you through the galleries and connect the art on the walls to the story, and the whole thing is built as a lively conversation rather than a formal lecture. If you're in a book club, you can also request a private tour. It's part of the museum's wider tours program, and the book changes every month: November will be My Friends by Fredrik Backman, and December will be Get the Picture by Bianca Bosker.
The tours run on the last three Tuesdays and the last three Thursdays of each month. On Tuesdays, they're at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM; on Thursdays, they're at 11:30 AM and 6 PM. For the rest of October, that means Thursday the 22nd at 11:30 AM and 6 PM, Tuesday the 27th at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM, and Thursday the 29th at 11:30 AM and 6 PM. Each one lasts an hour.
