Weekly Sunday residency of Obi Original and The Black Atlantics, a Minneapolis collective mixing highlife, Afrobeat and soul, at the 21+ Icehouse.
Obi Original and The Black Atlantics are back at Icehouse on Sunday, November 22, as part of their weekly residency. The residency marks an expansion of their presence on the Twin Cities stage, with the collective playing every Sunday night.
Their sound is a blend of highlife, Afrobeat, soulful grooves and modern fusion, and they've built their following on an infectious energy that looks back at the heritage and forward to the future of African-inspired music. Obi Original, a Minneapolis-based performer and cultural connector, leads the group with rhythmic pulse, storytelling and a spirit of community uplift. The Black Atlantics bring together skilled musicians, traditional and contemporary instrumentation and a genre-bending approach, with a particular emphasis on the Nigerian community connection and a commitment to cultural celebration and inclusion.
Obi Original describes the residency as more than a show: "We're excited to bring AFRODISIA to The Icehouse. This is more than a show, it's a space for joy, connection and honouring the rhythms that connect us all."
