24-hour photo challenge in which photographers are assigned a square in Minneapolis, shoot and edit in a 'Pod', then have their work judged live for over $10,000 in prizes.
MSP Squared takes over Studio 1414 on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24. It's the Minneapolis edition of ASMP's City Squared series, a 24-hour photo challenge that carves the city into 75 numbered squares. Each photographer gets one square at random and has a day to shoot whatever they find inside it. After that, you edit your work alongside a small group called a 'Pod' before the final images are judged live.
It's as much about the people you meet and the ideas you take home as the photographs you make, and it's open to photographers of any experience level, not just professionals or ASMP members. Five 'Wildcard Squares' cover some of the most popular and beautiful areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul, and three 'Commemorative Squares' mark sites of historical significance. Adobe and FUJIFILM are title sponsors, with Blurb as the printing partner. There's more than $10,000 in prizes across six main categories, plus a Best In Show and five Adobe Craft Awards. ASMP brought the series back after a hiatus following a 2019 City Squared event.
The schedule runs across two days. Check-in is Friday, Oct 23, from 1 to 5 PM. On Saturday, Oct 24, group pod editing happens from 1 to 4 PM, with the submission deadline at 4 PM. Live judging and awards follow from 6 to 9 PM. The whole thing is held at Studio 1414, 1414 Marshall Street NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413.
