A day of family activities connecting visitors with artwork on view, with free gallery admission, including tours and a family-friendly film.
The Walker Art Center is hosting another Free First Saturday on Saturday, November 7, with this one titled Designing Together. It's part of the museum's monthly family program, which opens the galleries for free on the first Saturday of every month and fills the day with free activities for families from 10 AM to 3 PM. The galleries are open all day, so you can wander through the current exhibitions on your own time.
Beyond the open galleries, there's a set schedule of things to do. At 11:30 AM, there's a free educator-led family tour, and at 3 PM, a Spanish-language tourβboth meet in the Main Lobby. Throughout the day, the Bentson Mediatheque is showing a family-friendly film. If you're bringing kids, the tours are a good way to get them looking at the art with a bit of guidance, and the film gives you a place to sit and reset when the gallery walking gets to be too much.
It's worth knowing that this is just one of the Walker's regular open-access programs. They also run Free Thursday Nights every Thursday from 5 PM to 9 PM, and Sensory Friendly Sunday, a free monthly program for visitors with sensory processing differences, autism, or developmental disabilities. Both are supported by the KHR McNeely Family Foundation and the Pohlad Family Community Engagement Fund.
